Well worth the time...
The Hoover Dam Tour is a great 4-5 hour diversion from the neon and gambling. A bit dubious at first, we all agreed that we would recommend this tour to anyone staying in Las Vegas for a few days. The price varies on the Internet (about $50 ea.), but many don't include the Discovery Tour which really enhances the experience and makes the trip worthwhile.
It is important that you pick a tour which you leaves between 7:30-8:30 am to miss the hour(s) long wait in traffic because of construction associated with the Hoover Dam Bypass Bridge. This advice by itself is critical to keeping your timeline and overall enjoyment. See picture below.
